JAVELINAS — UP-CLOSE (Film)

In 2010 I took some of the closest-ever footage of javelinas. My camera was nearly touching them while they focused on a small snack.  (It’s important to point out we never fed them during our long stay in Tucson, Arizona — until THIS  session, when we discovered them rifling through our birdseed on the patio.)  A last-minute opportunity to record these magnificent beasts for posterity was irresistible — never mind we’d chased them off with a broom countless times before.  The sizable herds which previously ransacked our yards numbered as many as 13; it’s sad to report those numbers dwindled before we left in 2010. Javelinas have sharp canines, and can be incredibly fierce; they’ve been known to give chase to mountain lions, and it’s NOT recommended to get this close to them.
